About the area West of the Willamette
The “Westside” of town refers to any place on the Western side of the Willamette River. This area is comprised of Downtown Portland, Northwest Portland, and Southwest Portland, plus the Easter Suburbs.
The PDX Westside ‘Feel’
Portland’s Westside is quieter and more expensive that the Eastside of town. Other than the downtown area, most neighborhoods on the Westside offer an easier pace with relative quietness and privacy. While the Westside of town is not considered as “hip” as the Eastside, there are a few quirky commercial areas like Multnomah Village and the Alphabet District. Small pockets of historic homes can be found in the inner portions of the Westside, but the majority of homes are from the 1960s through today.
Westside to Downtown Portland commutes are relatively easy and don’t always require a battle with freeway traffic. Likewise, most of the major employers of Portland are located on this side of town, making for easier commutes to companies like Nike and Intel.
The Westside also offers the best school districts in Portland.
