Real Estate in Lake Oswego
Welcome to the city of Lake Oswego! Lake Oswego is a suburban city of the Portland, Oregon Metro hub. Located in the midst of the City of Lake Oswego is the lake of the same name. Near enough to downtown Portland, but separate and clearly a city in its own right, Lake Oswego is one of Metro Portland’s PREMIERE neighborhoods. Life in Lake Oswego is a very good mix of established estates, eclectic condos, vibrant community, active recreation and pure charm.
The lake itself is a man-made lake, which came about during the age when the area was being used to mine iron. The smelt was run off into the lake. That was well over one hundred years ago. There are no more iron plants in the area, and the Lake was converted into recreational use in the early 1900’s.
In times past, many Portland “city” dwellers purchased small parcels of land in Lake Oswego and built little cabins, using the cottages as vacation or weekend get-aways. The 15 miles from Downtown Portland made it a desirable spot for the affluent who wanted a little country setting to go to.
Since then, Lake Oswego has become a very affluent, vibrant, high demand area that it’s known for today.

Even its own lake — hence the “Lake” part of Lake Oswego — where boating, swimming, fishing and paddle boats are favorite activities.
Property owners may have “lake rights” built into their deed, and if near enough to the Lake, they may have mooring slips. Other properties have “access rights.” But who cares?!?
The Willamette River offers the public river access and has boat and kayak launches, picnic area, and other recreational uses throughout the area.

Little known fact about this Portland suburb; Lake Oswego has a sub-division planned by a J.R.R. Tolkien aficionado. I’m not making this up, there is: Hobbit Ct., Rivendell Dr., Lothlorien Way, Hillshire Way are actual streets names — and it’s a gorgeous area.
