King City is located in the shadows of the City of Tigard, nestled between the Tualatin River and the south slope of Bull Mountain in Washington County. It is located about 10 miles south of downtown Portland.
King City was incorporated in March 1966 and is a 55+ residential community. Its name was picked arbitrarily by the Tualatin Development Company, Inc., which used a royalty theme in naming the city streets. Although it was originally meant to be a retirement community, the charm of King City has drawn residents of all ages and new developments have popped up as more land has been annexed. In 2005 a community park was built and includes a soccer field, basketball court and an extensive play structure.
